That's right! Nottingham's first Goose Fair was in 1284.

Correct!

Nottingham's Goose Fair

The Goose Fair is so old that we don’t really know how it got it’s name! We think that the name came from the many geese which would have been brought from Lincolnshire to Nottingham to be sold.

Although we have a Goose Fair every year, sometimes the event has been cancelled. In 1646 the fair couldn’t go ahead because of the plague, and then during both World Wars the fair was cancelled because of the war effort.

Today we know the Goose Fair for having a variety of rides, games and food, however the fair was originally meant for trading and was well known for its’ cheese!
